SDOT: Reinventing tomorrow's passenger experience

In an increasingly connected world, digital technologies are at the heart of the transformation of transport services. SDOT(for Service Digital On Train), the brainchild of SNCF's Rolling Stock Engineering department, embodies this digital revolution, transforming trains into communicating platforms. SDOT enables rail operators to integrate advanced functionalities such as video-protection, passenger counting, Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers, dynamic passenger information broadcasting and track recording with front cameras for safety. These innovations not only improve the passenger experience, but also enhance safety and operational efficiency.

A single network for maximum efficiency and optimized costs

One of SDOT's main assets lies in its ability to pool all essential on-board functions on a common integrated network. This innovative approach delivers substantial savings in terms of installation and maintenance.

Reduced installation costs and simplified maintenance:

By grouping functions such as video protection, passenger counting, Wi-Fi and dynamic passenger information on a single network, SDOT considerably simplifies the installation process. This avoids the need to install multiple separate systems, and significantly reduces hardware, labor, maintenance and operating costs.

Sharing functions through a common network of standard products also facilitates obsolescence management. Last but not least, the modular design remains scalable and open to innovative solutions in the future.

SDOT follows the ITxPT (Information Technology for Public Transport) standard, which ensures optimum interoperability for SNCF and its customers thanks to its Open Architecture model.

Real-Time Monitoring and Maintenance Optimization :

SDOT is an end-to-end solution integrating ground-to-board communication, enabling real-time train monitoring and facilitating on-line operation and diagnostics. Operators can continuously monitor train performance, quickly identify anomalies and trigger preventive maintenance actions before problems arise. This proactive monitoring ensures high train availability.

By analyzing the data collected, maintenance teams can plan targeted, preventive interventions, reducing unplanned breakdowns and maintenance costs. In this way, SDOT optimizes workshop maintenance.

Enhanced Connectivity for a Better Passenger Experience

Dynamic dissemination of passenger information :

Thanks to SDOT, trains can be equipped with connected display panels that provide real-time visual and audio information on timetables, connections, safety announcements and other communications (tourist information, advertising). This connectivity enables passengers to stay informed and travel with complete peace of mind.

Passenger Wi-Fi connectivity :

On-board Wi-Fi is now essential. SDOT offers a fast connection so passengers can work, play and stay connected throughout their journey.

Passenger counting :

SDOT includes a passenger counting system, enabling operators to better manage resources and monitor train ridership in real time. This data can be used to plan investments, adjust services according to ridership, and guide passengers on the platform to the least crowded passenger areas during peak periods.

Accrued Security and Surveillance

Videoprotection and Rearview:

Safety is an absolute priority for rail operators. SDOT integrates on-board real-time video-protection systems to monitor train interiors, as well as rear-view systems for viewing platforms. These systems help prevent incidents, react quickly to problems and ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

Front cameras :

In the event of an accident or incident on the track, front cameras play a crucial role in analyzing and understanding events. SDOT enables trains to be equipped with front cameras and in-cab microphones, continuously recording journeys and providing essential evidence in the event of an accident. This helps to improve safety, boost passenger confidence and speed up the resumption of traffic after an event.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Rail Transport

The integration of AI opens up new perspectives for rail transport. SDOT's sophisticated algorithms can anticipate maintenance needs and identify potential faults, providing operators with powerful tools for proactive management...

In the future, AI will enable the use of on-board cameras to develop advanced functionalities such as intelligent passenger counting. This innovative technology will not only accurately count the number of passengers on board, but also identify and track other variables such as people with reduced mobility (PRMs), bicycles carried, or even forgotten baggage. This evolution paves the way for even finer management of on-board resources and services, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

SDOT at InnoTrans

MASTERIS will be exhibiting at InnoTrans in Berlin from September 24 to 27, 2024. Come and meet our teams and see our SDOT demonstrator on stand 840, where we'll be presenting our solutions.
